The Promotion I almost Said “No” To

A few years back, I was offered a big step up in my career. A promotion that came right after returning from maternity leave.

On paper, it was everything I had worked for.

But inside? I questioned if I was ready.
👉 Could I balance it with being a new mum?
👉 Was I capable enough to succeed at that level?
👉 Was I just being set up to fail?

The truth is, self-doubt nearly made me turn it down.

But I said yes.

And that single decision taught me:
1️⃣ Stepping into the unknown is what made every other challenge possible. If I’d said no, it would’ve been another “what if” story.
2️⃣ Fear and growth often show up together.
3️⃣ Sometimes others see your potential long before you do.

Looking back, that promotion became one of the defining chapters of my career. Not because it was easy, but because it stretched me into someone I didn’t yet believe I could be.

Now, in my coaching work, I see this all the time: clients who are more ready than they think, but need a nudge to reframe the story they’re telling themselves.

Have you ever almost said no to something big… only to find it changed everything?
